PROTECTING OUR ENVIRONMENT

A responsibility for good environmental practice that goes beyond compliance.

We are committed, throughout our business, to reducing the environmental impact of our work. We set clearly defined targets for energy consumption, waste management and recycling, and the use of sustainable materials. We build processes to meet those objectives into all our project plans. We assess our performance closely as part of an environmental management system based on ISO 14001 requirements and accredited to Green Accord Premier, EXOR Gold and Altius Elite – helping us understand how we can drive continual improvement. Outstanding environmental performance is critical to the reputation of our company. The issues are reviewed regularly by our Board of Directors, and we promote the same best practice amongst the suppliers and sub-contractors that support us.

Environmental Policy

Effective environmental performance adds value for our business and our stakeholders, as well as making a positive contribution to the communities where we work.

Managing Waste

Reducing waste and managing it more efficiently is a natural priority. It’s not just about environmental benefit; less waste saves our customers money. We aim to recycle over 95% of all service-related waste. We do this by segregating waste streams and innovating recovery processes. The result is less waste to landfill, and more valuable materials repurposed. We work closely with our waste management partners to audit the volume and types of waste we generate on every project. This not only identifies opportunities for improvement, it increases the accuracy of waste forecasting, helping us plan ahead more effectively.

Energy Use

Using energy more efficiently reduces our environmental impact and our operating costs. As energy prices rise, cutting our fuel, electricity and water use makes good commercial sense. Employing locally, the intelligent coordination of a low emission vehicle fleet, and driving fuel-efficiently, help optimize travel times and reduce fuel use. We apply similar low consumption standards to plant and equipment, and site and office lighting and heating systems, minimising our overall carbon footprint. As part of our environmental action plan we aim to reduce CO2 emissions by 10% annually, water consumption by 10% and electricity use by 5% year-on-year.

Sustainable Materials

Sustainability is a critical aspect of our procurement choices. We recognise that the purchase decisions we make can have both positive and negative impacts on the communities we operate in, and the wider environment. Our procurement policies favour materials from accredited responsible sourcing schemes. We encourage the use of reusable materials to cut waste. Wherever possible we specify more efficient products that help us, and our customers, reduce resource and energy consumption. We actively seek supply chain partners whose sustainability standards are aligned to our own and consider environmental impact as part of our supplier assessment criteria.

Renewable Energy

As well as reducing our own energy consumption, our specialist renewables team works closely with customers to identify greener energy technologies that can also drive cost savings. We offer a comprehensive consultancy, project design, installation and maintenance service across a wide range of renewable solutions, including solar and photovoltaic, air and ground source heat pumps, and biomass, as well as fitting the latest smart metering systems. Uniquely, we can also coordinate and arrange funding for equipment and installation, offering a long-term lease option, to remove the barrier of initial capital investment.
